Magical Thinking: CHRIS TOMAINO!
What magical thinking have you engaged in lately?
I think the magical thinking that I have been engaged in lately has been, and not to get too heavy, what am I going to do with the rest of my life? I am very trepidatious about the future at the moment so I'm trying to utilize some positive thinking skills in reimagining what the last third of my life will be. I haven't really come up with any answers yet, but I would definitely say that anything could happen!
If you were a magician, what would be your best trick?
I would like to make people appear and disappear! Wouldn't that be a fabulous skill to have? To make people appear when you need them, and perhaps disappear when you don't.
Do you know someone who has a ~magical touch~? What is it?
Definitely the person that I know with the magical touch is our fearless leader Clare Mottola. Clare just has an endless creative vision, both as a human being and a theater artist. And I think perhaps the magical touch is the ability to make something out of nothing. And this is a rare gift!
What has been your favorite magical moment in your life so far?
Wow, that is a big question! I'm sure it could say a lot of things about the people in my life and the friendships that I have, all of which have been pretty magical. But I don't know if I could ever experience again what I experienced when I was 18 years old at the Booth Theater on Broadway. I saw Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the park with George when I graduated from high school, and sitting in that theater that day, I had the most cathartic, creative, artistic experience of my life. It's hard to describe other than a feeling as if I've been walking around with a piece missing. And sitting in the audience that day, that missing piece came to me. I was mesmerized. And it's that experience that has fueled most of my professional life. So a huge thanks to Steven Sondheim, James Lapine and the marvelous cast of Sunday in the Park.
