What magical thinking have you engaged in lately?

I just scored a pair of impossible Bruce Springsteen tickets at face value in a general public internet sale - I know grown men in the music industry who couldn't get these tix with access codes, but I believed and thus I prevailed, magically.

If you were a magician, what would be your best trick?

Love spells, full stop - I'm talking potions, I'm talking all-consuming dreams, I'm talking weird poppet stuff. Once I learned how to do a "pink light" spell for igniting carnal lust but I misunderstood and envisioned red light instead of pink and that guy went literally insane, I had to block him.

Do you know someone who has a ~magical touch~? What is it?

A special one who comes to mind is a 5-year-old at the preschool I run, who turned to me a few months ago out of nowhere and demanded, "what's the difference between a ghost and a spirit?" I stood there totally dumbfounded, trying to gather a reasonable answer, and she just nodded and said to herself, "it must be a question of power" before wandering off. I don't know how exactly her magic is going to manifest but she is one to watch out for.

What has been your favorite magical moment in your life so far?

Buying my house on the Cape sight unseen - it's a perfect slice of peace in my exact favorite place on earth, and I absolutely shouldn't have been able to afford it or beat other buyers to it, but a series of bizarre and lucky happenings made it mine. There are moments in the early morning there, when the beach mist rolls in and mixes high up in the trees with orange dawn, and the air smells like salt and pine and honeysuckles all at once, when I know for certain that some magic was afoot in the sale.
