Cherry Picking: Prologue is an opportunity for playwrights to hear their work-in-process read aloud and in-dialogue with fellow theater artists and audiences.
Here’s how it works:
Playwrights who wish to have their work read and workshopped may submit their work to Prologue at any time.
Cherry Picking regularly reviews submitted works and aims to schedule readings for accepted works within two weeks of approval.
Prologue readings consist of:
Pre-reading intake conversation that helps curate the critical response process for your work—identifying your needs as a writer, questions and context that will help frame our discussion of your work.
One night of informal virtual reading followed by a Critical Response Practice that includes the playwright(s) and audience members who are invited to the reading at the discretion of the playwright and our producers.
Prologue events consist of a maxmium of 30 minutes of performed material, followed by 45 minutes of discussion.
Prologue is a one-time opportunity for your draft—each work accepted into Prologue receives one night of reading and discussion.
Prologue readings are cast by Cherry Picking, but writers are welcome to make casting recommendations.
Writers are encouraged to invite their own guests to join us on the evening of their reading.
Each Prologue session follows an established set of guidelines that frames each reading and aims to ensure our discussion is safe and productive for the writer and all present.
At this time, all Cherry Picking: Prologue readings are virtual.
Playwrights who have participated in Cherry Picking: Prologue include: David Kalal, Noah Tattleman Parnes, Lindsey Hope Perlman, Miriam Schultz, and Michael Simonson.
