Be kind to one another! Martha Epstein is playing by Ellen's rules.

What is the most memorable moment from your 18th year?

Hmm… freshman year.... getting cast in my first college production was very memorable

When did you feel like you became an adult?

I think I’m still waiting on that... My semester abroad felt pretty adult-y at times. Or, when I was a counselor at a sleepaway camp, I lived in a bunk with ten young girls - I felt responsible for them 24/7 and was the person who was supposed to know all the answers. That felt like a taste of adulthood, too.

What is most important rule you follow?

I chew with my mouth closed. And I say “thank you”.

What is the worst rule you’ve broken?

I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to breaking rules. Every so often, in middle school, I would sneak into R-rated movies by buying a ticket for a different movie and then running into the R-rated one. It was pretty thrilling. I would try to play it off as no big deal but would spend the entire movie worrying that some official would catch me (you know, the guy who goes around during the movies to make sure that everyone is, in fact, watching the movie that they said were seeing)

What rule would you love to break, but haven’t?

Bringing my dog to dinner at a fancy restaurant. I think she would enjoy that!

Who’s the biggest rule-breaker you know?

My mom

What rule do you wish more people would follow?

It sounds cliché but probably the wise words of Ellen Degeneres: be kind to one another.
